The story
At Shmoné in New York's West Village, the menu changes daily, driven by the freshest ingredients available at market. Executive Chef Eyal Shani—the visionary behind dozens of acclaimed restaurants worldwide—and Executive Chef Orianne Shapira create dishes that evolve as produce ripens and catches arrive. One evening might center on just-to-market spring vegetables; another could be built around an unexpectedly robust haul from local seas. This spontaneity, paired with an intimate setting where chefs interact directly with guests in what the team calls a "tandem performance," defines the experience.
Chef Shani, born in Jerusalem, developed his culinary language around regional Mediterranean products: olive oil, fish, tahini, fresh vegetables, and the tomato. Chef Orianne Shapira, a former dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company who spent six years leading the kitchen at HaSalon NYC, brings an artistic touch to the menu. Together they craft dishes that are both elevated and whimsical, rooted in Israeli and Middle Eastern traditions but always guided by the seasons. Counter seating offers a front-row view of the action.
Shmoné earned a Michelin star in 2023 and retained it in 2024, recognized for high quality cooking. The restaurant continues to hold that standard, drawing diners who appreciate its focused, ingredient-driven approach.
In early 2025, the team opened Shmoné Wine next door at 65 W 8th Street. This walk-in-only wine bar offers a carefully curated selection of bottles and refined small bites, with the same warmth and attention to quality. No reservations needed—just come as you are.
