The story
Millennium has served innovative vegan cuisine in Oakland since opening its doors in 1994. Executive Chef Eric Tucker relocated the operation from San Francisco to the Rockridge district, bringing a deeply technical approach to plant-based cooking. He sources ingredients directly from small farms, adjusting the menu daily to match peak harvest windows. This commitment to seasonal sourcing earned consistent Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition starting in 2016, alongside recent acknowledgment from the We’re Smart Green Guide.
The kitchen treats vegetables as the primary protein, applying classic techniques to transform humble ingredients. Coriander and Arborio crusted oyster mushrooms arrive with peach habanero jam and a sharp cabbage slaw. Marinated nectarines pair with cashew lebneh and pomegranate syrup for a bright starter. Pastry Chef Pedro Moreno rounds out the service with a halva sundae featuring coconut tahini ice cream and date caramel syrup.
Visitors find themselves surrounded by rustic wood tables, industrial metal floor tiles, and exposed ductwork. A spacious heated patio offers covered seating for cooler evenings, while the main counter accommodates casual bar service. The beverage program centers on house-made fruit infusions and fresh pressed juices mixed into inventive cocktails. An internationally recognized wine list and curated craft beer selection run parallel to the food menu, ensuring every visit feels deliberately paced.
