The story
In the heart of Philadelphia’s Queen Village neighborhood, co-owners Chef Chris D’Ambro and Marina de Oliveira deliver an exceptional multi-course modern Italian dining experience. The restaurant, which has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, offers a seasonal tasting menu that changes with each season.
Guests choose between two distinct dining settings. The Chef’s Counter, seating two to four, places diners inside the working kitchen with a front-row view of the chef and his poised team. The intimate dining room, filled with personalized touches like fresh flowers, candles, and handcrafted furniture, creates the atmosphere of a private dinner party. As the New York Times noted, “Despite all the hallmarks of a lofty occasion meal… the Modern Italian boîte lacks all stuffiness.”
The evening begins with an “aperitivo” of light snacks and a spritz, then unfolds through a personal tasting menu that ends with desserts and amaro. Philadelphia Magazine described the experience as “less a restaurant and more an immersive dinner-and-a-show event,” while the Philadelphia Inquirer called it “a three-and-a-half hour saga of inventive plates and fascinating wines.”
With its thoughtful seasonal menu and two unique ways to experience the kitchen, Ambra brings a warm, unstuffy approach to fine dining in Philadelphia.
