The story

Fogo de Chão Houston | Brazilian Steakhouse in Piney Point Village

The Art of Churrasco in Houston

Since 1979, Fogo de Chão has kept the flames of the churrasco tradition burning. Rooted in the mountainous landscapes of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the founding brothers grew up on a traditional farm where they learned the craft of fire-roasting meats. After formal training as churrasqueiros in Rio and São Paulo, they built their first restaurant in Porto Alegre, a wood structure that quickly drew politicians, businessmen, and celebrities from across Brazil. The concept eventually crossed borders, landing first in Dallas before expanding across the U.S.

At the Houston location on Westheimer Road, the experience stays true to that heritage. Gaucho chefs move through the dining room with skewers of fire-roasted cuts, carving tableside. The menu features signature Brazilian cuts like Picanha (prime part of the top sirloin), Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), and Costela (beef ribs), all slow-roasted over an open flame. Alongside the meats, the Market Table offers fresh, vibrant salads and authentic sides. For those who want to explore further, Bar Fogo serves Brazilian-inspired small plates and cocktails.

The restaurant’s commitment to quality extends to its wine program, recognized with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2002. The Founders Tribute Wine Collection, developed in partnership with South American wineries, offers pairings designed for specific cuts: the Jorjão Reserva Malbec complements the Picanha, while the O’Leão Red Blend pairs well with the Fraldinha and richer dishes like Wagyu New York Strip. Seasonal events, such as chef-curated wine dinners featuring 100-point vintages, deepen the connection between the churrasco experience and exceptional wine.

Fogo de Chão remains a destination for those who appreciate the culinary art of churrasco — a tradition kept alive through fire, skill, and a respect for the past.
