The story
Brewery Bhavana is not easily categorized. It is a dim sum house, a Chinese restaurant, a brewery, a taproom, a bookstore, and a flower shop — all under one roof at 218 S. Blount Street in Raleigh. The team calls it “a living room for the city,” and that warmth is felt the moment you walk in. The space was born from a seed planted in 2014, after years of travel and shared meals among friends. Their aim was simple: to show the hand of the maker in everything they do.
Founding brewer Patrick brought a Belgian-inspired philosophy to the beer program, focusing on elegance, subtlety, and restraint. The beers are dry, yeast-forward, and often experimental — wild yeasts, barrel aging, and foeders add funk and complexity. On the food side, the menu centers on beloved dim sum, alongside entrees like General Tso Chicken and Peking Duck. The cooking draws from Chinese traditions, crafted with the same care and precision as the brewery.
In Cary, the team opened Bhavana Fenton, a 2,000-square-foot space designed like a greenhouse. Flooded with natural light and filled with greenery, it offers the same dim sum menu and Belgian-inspired beers, plus exclusive lighter fare, draft cocktails, and a spacious patio beside a courtyard. Guests can also take home limited-edition brews from the beer coolers.
Brewery Bhavana’s singular vision — blending Chinese cuisine, craft beer, and community — earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a nod to its consistent quality and the genuine hospitality that defines every visit. Whether you come for the handmade beers, the steaming baskets of dim sum, or simply to settle into a seat and watch the room, Bhavana makes good on its promise to nourish and inspire.
