The story
Shapley’s Restaurant began in 1985 as a dream of Mary and Mark Shapley. They built a dining destination that became a local tradition. After a break to raise their daughters, they returned to the restaurant eight years ago, and now the next generation has taken the lead. Jeffrey Shapley, with over twenty years of experience, is the new owner, carrying forward the family’s name and reputation. Executive Chef Brian Hunt leads the kitchen, while the team maintains the inviting atmosphere that has defined Shapley’s from the start.
The menu centers on prime cut meats and fresh seafood—a classic steakhouse and seafood approach that feels both timeless and personal. The restaurant requests a business casual dress code, reinforcing the refined yet comfortable tone. Six private dining rooms accommodate parties from eight to more than fifty guests, making the space suitable for both quiet dinners and celebrations. An outdoor seating option is available, and the kitchen draws from its own Shapley’s Garden, with seasonal specials like caprese salads and eggplant Parmesan that highlight the freshest ingredients.
Shapley’s offers an extensive selection of domestic and imported wines, with an emphasis on unique, drinkable, and affordable bottles from around the world. This commitment to quality earned the restaurant the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2023, a recognition that speaks to the care put into every pairing. Whether you are enjoying a tender filet with artichoke hearts or a steak tartare special, the wine list is designed to complement the meal.
From the first seating at 5 p.m. to the last reservation thirty minutes before close, Shapley’s maintains a steady, unhurried pace. The team’s warmth is evident in the way they describe the restaurant: “Great food and inviting atmosphere were always the centerpiece.” The result is a dining experience that feels both special and familiar—a true Mississippi tradition carried forward by the Shapley family.
