The story
In San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, just blocks from Oracle Park, Movida brings together two distinct culinary traditions. This Persian and Mexican fusion restaurant and lounge creates a high-energy environment where the flavors of both cuisines meet on the plate and in the glass.
The founders built Movida around three ideas: the terroir of a bar-lounge that pairs unique flavors with creative libations, the experience of sharing bold fusion food, and a genuine love for hospitality. The result is a place designed for gathering, whether for an early happy hour, a late night out, or Sunday brunch.
The chef-driven menu reimagines the spices and ingredients of both Persian and Mexican cooking. Small plates like the Pomegranate Adobo Chicken Taquitos and Bone Marrow Mazeh with Barbari bread set the tone. Skewers—Saffron Chicken, Jalapeño Beef and Lamb Koobideh, Filet Mignon Barg Asada—can be ordered on their own or as tacos. Larger plates include a Chile Relleno stuffed with lamb and basmati rice, and a Saffron & Sumac Fried Chicken with barberry cornbread. The cocktail program is equally ambitious, with drinks like the Millionaire’s Margarita and the Anar-ita using ingredients such as aloe vera, Persian melon, and rose water.
The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended recognition, reflecting the quality and originality of its approach. Movida is a fresh, modern take on what fusion can be—grounded in authentic flavors and served in a space that feels both lively and welcoming.
