The story
Oma San Francisco Station brings the Japanese tradition of omakase to the heart of Japantown. In this style of dining, guests entrust the chef with the entire meal. The chef, in turn, commits to using the freshest ingredients, masterful techniques, and bursts of innovation to create a memorable experience. The result is a simple yet elegant way to enjoy Japanese cuisine.
The restaurant is designed to resemble an izakaya, a Japanese tavern. Food is prepared right before your eyes at the counter, and each guest receives careful, personal attention. The space is intimate, with counter dining that puts you close to the action. This setting, combined with the chef’s dedication, has earned Oma San Francisco Station a Michelin Recommended designation — a recognition of its consistent quality and thoughtful approach.
Oma offers three omakase experiences, each built around the same structure: appetizers, sashimi, chef’s choice dishes, nigiri sushi, and dessert. The Mizuho menu ($165) includes 24 items — three kinds of appetizer, four kinds of sashimi, four chef’s choice dishes, twelve pieces of nigiri, and dessert. The Sakura menu ($125) offers 16 items: two appetizers, two sashimi, two chef’s choice dishes, nine pieces of nigiri, and dessert. The Tsubame menu ($95) presents 12 items: one appetizer, one sashimi, one chef’s choice dish, eight pieces of nigiri, and dessert. All menus are subject to change, and the restaurant notes it cannot accommodate gluten-free or severe allergy restrictions.
While sushi and sashimi are central, Oma also serves an assortment of Japanese hors d’oeuvres. Each small plate is carefully prepared and plated to achieve a harmonious flavor profile. The emphasis is on freshness and balance, with the chef’s choices offering variety and surprise. The dining experience lasts one hour and thirty minutes, allowing for a focused, unhurried meal.
