The story
At the top of the Alpine Springs lift, 10,486 feet above sea level, Alpin Room offers a lunch experience that blends mountain comfort with kitchen precision. Ski-in, ski-out access makes it a natural pause for skiers and riders, but the restaurant’s ambition goes well beyond an on-mountain pit stop.
The cuisine is described as a handcrafted reimagination of French home cooking – think French onion soup, beef bourguignon, rustic ratatouille, and a fondue sourdough boule. Each dish is made from scratch, with modern touches that keep the cooking grounded yet surprising. Giant windows wrap the dining room, flooding the space with natural light and framing the Snowmass peaks. Afternoon meals pair easily with regional wines, craft cocktails, or a crisp brew. For dessert, options include brown butter almond cake and pot de crème.
Behind the stove is High Alpine Executive Chef Emily Oyer, a Virginia Beach native who moved to the valley in 2019. She earned a Food Network victory on “Beat Bobby Flay” and has appeared on the network multiple times, bringing an award-winning approach to mountain dining.
In 2022, Alpin Room received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, recognizing a wine program that complements the refined yet approachable American and Austrian-inspired menu. It’s the kind of place where the mountain sets the scene but the cooking, anchored in scratch technique and thoughtful sourcing, is the reason to linger. Lunch runs 11:30 am to 3:00 pm seasonally; reservations are recommended.
