The story
At The Surf Club Restaurant in Surfside, Florida, Chef Thomas Keller brings his renowned precision to a setting that celebrates the leisure and glamour of a bygone era. Located within the historic Surf Club, this is the first time the acclaimed chef has opened a property in the state. The restaurant earned a Michelin star for its high-quality cooking, a recognition that speaks to the meticulous execution of its classic American cuisine.
The à la carte menu interprets classic Continental cuisine for a contemporary audience. Think dishes that are both recognizable and impeccably executed: True Ribeye, Beef Wellington, Lobster Thermidor, and a Roasted Chicken for Two. The menu also features signatures like Avocado Louie, Lemon Meringue Tart, and Coconut Cake, all prepared with the exacting standards Keller is known for.
The beverage program, designed by Michel Couvreux, mirrors the restaurant’s elegant character. The extensive wine list draws from major viticultural regions worldwide, offering a diverse selection of old-world and new-world bottles. Cocktails nod to the property’s past, inspired by the original Surf Club’s cocktail culture.
Chef de Cuisine Daniel Donado leads the kitchen, crafting seasonal menus with a focus on precision and quality. Donado, who has been with the restaurant for nearly five years, works closely with General Manager George Totari to ensure a seamless guest experience. Pastry Chef Nii-Ayi Evans oversees desserts, bread, and viennoiserie, drawing on experience from kitchens at The Dorchester, Le Jules Verne, and Claridge’s.
The restaurant’s atmosphere recalls the swinging patrons of mid-century hotspots—a place that, as the team puts it, “knows how to have fun.” Whether in the main dining room or at the bar, the experience is polished and welcoming, a balance of nostalgia and modern ease.
