The story
At Maria Restaurant in New Rochelle, the old meets new in a space designed as an homage to the family's mother. The setting is an industrial modern farmhouse, defined by massive chandeliers, striking sapphire blue banquettes, and whitewashed, century-old brick walls. A comfortable fourteen-seat white quartz bar anchors the room, creating a space that feels both vibrant and welcoming.
The menu presents a contemporary take on Italian and Italian-American cuisine, with dishes that change with the seasons and availability. Starters range from Mom’s Meatballs with whipped ricotta and pomodoro to a delicate Salmon Tartare with smashed avocado and ginger. Pasta offerings are hearty and inventive, including a Pappardelle with six-hour lamb ragu and whipped chèvre, and a Maccheroni in Sunday Sauce loaded with meatballs, sausage gravy, and lamb stew. Main courses feature classics like Chicken Parmigiana alongside a Charred Octopus with chili-braised butter beans.
Maria Restaurant has earned notable recognition for its approach. It was named Westchester Magazine’s Best New Restaurant in 2019 and has been a consistent recipient of the Michelin Bib Gourmand award, receiving the honor five times between 2020 and 2024. The family behind the restaurant expresses heartfelt gratitude to their guests for their constant support, inviting diners to talk, eat, laugh, and drink in a space that balances industrial edge with warm hospitality.
