The story
Heirloom Market BBQ is a small, chef-driven restaurant where the cooking pays respect to iconic BBQ traditions while weaving in personal, Korean-inspired flavors. It is the kind of place that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking—and it delivers exactly that. The menu reads like a love letter to what chefs Cody Taylor and Jiyeon Lee call “the things we eat on our days off.”
The story starts with Cody and Jiyeon asking themselves a simple question: “What can we enjoy doing for the next ten years?” The answer was cooking to their strengths: simple, classic, and fresh. Jiyeon, a South Korean ex-pat, grew up on grilled meats, pickled vegetables, and an array of side dishes. Her culinary training and travels gave her a deep love for what she calls “Seoul food”—Southern cuisine filtered through a Korean lens. Cody, a Texas-born, Tennessee-raised, Atlanta-trained chef, spent years perfecting his smoked meats. Together, they created a place that pairs familiar BBQ with unexpected heat and tang.
The menu changes daily, but staples include brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, and a standout Spicy Korean Pork—a 9-ounce platter or sandwich served on a bun from General Muir. Gochujang-rubbed spare ribs and sweet-and-smoky wings are signatures. Tacos come on corn tortillas with kimchi slaw, jalapeños, cilantro, and KB sauce. Sides like kimchi slaw, Korean sweet potatoes, and local kimchi reflect the dual heritage; classic collards and Brunswick stew keep one foot firmly in the South.
Heirloom Market BBQ is “the smallest of places with the biggest of hearts.” It operates Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 8pm, with a patio for enjoying your meal. There is no pretense—just honest BBQ that blends two worlds into something wholly its own. The Bib Gourmand recognition from Michelin underscores what locals already know: this is a place where thoughtful cooking and generous value meet.
