The story
At Cucina Morini, the vibrant flavors and coastal influences of Southern Italy come to life in Washington, DC. Chef Matt Adler, in collaboration with the team behind the acclaimed Osteria Morini, brings a distinctively Southern Italian approach to the table, anchored by a legacy of over ten years in the city’s Navy Yard. Here, the focus is on the highest-quality ingredients, from fresh crudi and handmade pasta to signature specialties inspired by the sun-soaked markets and seaside trattorias of the region.
Chef Matt Adler’s culinary journey began in 2009 at Convivio, a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York, where he specialized in Southern Italian cuisine. He later brought his expertise to Washington, DC as Executive Chef at Osteria Morini. Deeply inspired by extensive travels, Chef Adler infuses Cucina Morini with the essence of his recent month-long exploration along Sicily’s coastline. His menu showcases pristine crudo, seasonal vegetables, artisanal pasta, and exquisitely prepared seafood, all reflecting a commitment to regional Italian cooking. This dedication to quality and consistency has earned the restaurant a place on the Michelin guide’s Recommended list.
Step inside and you are invited to immerse yourself in the convivial spirit of coastal Italy. Begin at the Aperitivo Bar with a refreshing spritz and cicchetti before moving to the main dining room. The menu offers a thoughtful selection of dishes designed for sharing, including classics like the Osteria Morini-style prosciutto and mortadella meatballs, and handmade pastas such as the squid ink taglioni with shellfish ragu. Every dish tells a story of tradition, warmth, and the simple joy of a meal shared with friends and loved ones.
