The story
At Sfoglina, the craft of handmade pasta is the star. Chef Fabio Trabocchi named this Washington DC restaurant after the female pasta makers of Italy—the sfogline—who preserved the tradition of rolling and shaping dough by hand. That spirit is on full display daily in the pasta room at each of Sfoglina’s three locations: Van Ness, Downtown, and Rosslyn.
The menu is rooted in Italian tradition, offering classic and regional specialties that change often and include daily specials. Think pappardelle with a rich Ragu Bolognese, radiatore Cacio e Pepe made with sheep’s milk pecorino, and Nonna’s Potato Gnocchi with roasted mushroom and porcini crema. Beyond pasta, the kitchen turns out shareable antipasti like Nonna Palmina’s Meatballs and grilled spiced wild calamari, as well as seasonal salads and simply grilled fish and steaks. The all-day menu also features a Mozzarella Bar, a selection of Italian wines, and timeless cocktails.
The restaurant’s warm, whimsical design and comfy patios invite guests to linger over an Italian Dolce Vita—whether for a weekday lunch, a weekend brunch (now available at Van Ness and Rosslyn), or a daily happy hour from 3pm to 6pm. This commitment to quality and tradition has earned Sfoglina a Michelin Recommended distinction, placing it among the capital’s notable Italian dining destinations.
