The story
On a quiet street in Hoan Kiem District, Hà Thành Mansion occupies a century-old villa — a listed heritage building that stands as a witness to Hanoi’s past. The restaurant’s philosophy is rooted in the idea that heritage is not about things that are old or dying, but about values that endure through time. Here, that means a deep commitment to the Northern Vietnamese table — the mâm cơm Bắc Bộ — and the familiar, comforting flavours of home.
The building itself is a journey. The ground floor reflects French colonial garden-villa architecture, while the second floor evokes the bustling 36 streets of old Hanoi with intricate craftsmanship. The top floor tells the legend of the Dragon and Fairy, Lac Long Quan and Au Co. This layered setting, with traditional music performances on Saturday evenings, creates an atmosphere that is both elegant and warmly welcoming.
The menu at Hà Thành Mansion is a tribute to Hanoi’s culinary heritage. It features dishes that are both well-loved and, in some cases, nearly lost. The signature set, “Hanoi's Memoir,” has included revived classics such as riêu cua bánh đúc — a crab-based soup with steamed rice cake — alongside enduring icons like chả cá Lã Vọng, the famed turmeric fish from Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Other standouts include nem rán (crispy spring rolls), chả ốc (snail patties), bò “Cái Bang”, and a robust lẩu ốc thả giấm bỗng (snail hotpot with fermented vinegar). Each dish is prepared with carefully selected ingredients, aiming for a balance of visual appeal and deep, satisfying flavour.
In 2026, Hà Thành Mansion was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition of its good quality, good value cooking. This honour places the restaurant among Hanoi’s most noteworthy dining destinations, affirming its success in preserving and presenting the essence of Vietnamese cuisine in a setting of genuine character.
Whether it’s a quiet lunch (a set menu of over 12 dishes is available at a special price for members between 11am and 2pm), a dinner with colleagues, or a family celebration, Hà Thành Mansion aims to provide a space that feels both refined and familiar. The restaurant has also hosted special events, including a traditional mooncake workshop and a welcome dinner for celebrated chef Luke Nguyen and Intrepid Travel guests, highlighting its role as a cultural ambassador for Vietnamese food.
