The story
On a small corner of Chân Cầm Street, a few steps from Hoan Kiem Lake, Miến Lươn Chân Cầm (also known as Minh Lan – Miến Lươn Số 1 Chân Cầm) has been feeding Hanoi’s Old Quarter for years. A Michelin Bib Gourmand 2026 awardee, this no-frills shop is all about eel vermicelli – done the way locals love it.
The menu is short but purposeful: miến lươn nước (eel noodle soup), miến lươn trộn (dry mixed eel vermicelli), and a handful of sides like chả lươn (eel cake), nộm lươn (eel salad), and lươn om (braised eel). The broth, as regulars note, is deeply savoury and naturally sweet – “cooked with real eel bones, not MSG,” says one. The eel itself is fried until crunchy, then tossed with the noodles or served on top of the soup. A bowl costs around 30,000 VND – remarkably modest for the quality.
The setting is pure Old Quarter: a narrow shopfront with extra seating across the street, where the kitchen’s aroma pulls you in. Service is quick, and the vibe is relaxed. Regulars often order a second bowl, calling the portions “just right” for a snack but “a bit small” for a full meal. The takeaway option is popular, too.
One reviewer sums it up: “The broth is sweet and rich, the eel is crispy, and the noodles are perfectly chewy.” Another praises the “light, oil-free” miến trộn.
For a taste of Hanoi’s street-food soul, this is a stop worth making.
