The story
Xới Cơm was born from a simple desire: to recreate the comfort of a home-cooked meal. A group of young friends, united by their love for the family dining table, founded this restaurant in Hanoi's Dong Da district. Their philosophy is deeply rooted in the Vietnamese tradition of sharing a pot of rice, where the best grains from the center are offered to loved ones as a gesture of care. It is this spirit of warmth and generosity that earned Xới Cơm a Bib Gourmand award from Michelin, recognizing its good quality, good value cooking.
The restaurant occupies the ground floor of a collective housing block on Lane 36 Lang Ha Street, a building from the late 1990s. The space is a lovingly curated collection of vintage details: peeling yellow walls, blue window frames, and a floor of patterned tiles. The furniture is antique, sourced from regions around Da Nang, each piece with its own history. A trellis of Rangoon creeper flowers and a towering areca palm bring the outdoors in, creating a serene, nostalgic atmosphere that evokes Hanoi of decades past.
Xới Cơm’s menu changes daily, reflecting the freshest ingredients sourced directly from local farms. Their cooking philosophy is guided by a five-element balance of acid, salt, spice, fat, and heat, ensuring every dish is harmonious. Expect simple yet deeply flavorful dishes like stir-fried water spinach with garlic and deep-fried tofu with green onion. A standout is the Tôm Sốt Quất (shrimp with kumquat sauce), while the Cà dầm tương (eggplant in fermented bean sauce) offers a taste of the countryside. Every meal is a wholesome, nourishing experience, crafted to chase away the fatigue of the day.
