The story
The name Elgin nods to a street in Hong Kong where the founders first met – a bustling lane lined with everything from family-run eateries to Michelin-starred restaurants. That vibrant mix of flavours and casual energy is exactly what they wanted to bring to Saigon.
Elgin is run by a trio who keep things moving and pouring. Doug handles the big picture, Mimi orchestrates the nightly flow, and Dipti curates a wine list that’s earned its own following. The kitchen, now led by Chef Aldwin Hidajat, draws on his Indonesian heritage and Australian upbringing to create dishes that balance modern Asian flavours with a playful, technical edge.
The menu is built for sharing: small plates that reflect the team’s collective travels and tastes. Every dish starts with high-quality local produce, paired with some of the world’s best ingredients. Think inventive flavour combinations that always have a story – none of the fuss, just generous, memorable food. The cuisine walks the line between fun and technical, offering a new-age take on casual dining that feels proper but never stuffy.
The wine program is built around discovery. Expect lesser-known grapes, unexpected regions, and producers who put real love into their practice. Drinking here is meant to be easygoing – the bar-style service means you can order a glass of something fresh and fun alongside your meal, or dive into a bottle with friends.
Elgin has been featured in the Michelin Guide Vietnam for three consecutive years. The recognition is a natural fit: the restaurant delivers the kind of warm, personal hospitality that makes a casual dinner feel special. Whether you’re stopping in for a weekday bite or celebrating something bigger, the team is all about genuine connection – and food that makes you want to stay a little longer.
