The story
Chef Thierry Mounon’s path to Ho Chi Minh City is rooted in a deep commitment to French gastronomy. After honing his craft in Michelin-starred kitchens, he arrived in Vietnam in 2008. In 2010, he and his wife, Tina Trang Pham, opened La Villa French Restaurant, which earned a Michelin-selected title in 2023. Now, with La Fontaine French Bistrot, the couple presents a more relaxed sibling: a place where the essence of French bistro culture takes center stage.
The menu at La Fontaine is traditional and no-frills. The focus is on simple, flavourful dishes built from high-quality ingredients. Think classic French fare – generous portions, rich sauces, and the kind of comfort that comes from well-executed technique. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and also offers a weekly lunch set and a special “Golden Hours” apero time. Seasonal highlights, like raclette in cooler months, add a touch of conviviality.
Located on the second floor of River Garden in Thảo Điền, La Fontaine feels like a genuine Parisian bistro transplanted to Saigon. The space is air-conditioned, with parking available, and also offers takeaway and delivery. The atmosphere is warm and unhurried – a place to linger over a meal or share a bottle of wine.
La Fontaine’s dedication to authentic French cuisine has not gone unnoticed. It has been awarded a Michelin Recommended distinction, a testament to the consistent quality and heartfelt hospitality that Chef Thierry and his team bring to every table.
