The story
Flying Fishbone sits along a quiet crescent bay in Savaneta, Aruba’s old fishing village. The restaurant was the first on the island to popularise dining with your feet in the sand, and the setting remains its signature: tables placed directly on the beach, shaded by palm fronds, lit by tiki torches and lanterns as the sun sets. It’s a relaxed, romantic atmosphere that has earned the restaurant a place among the world’s best beach restaurants.
The menu reflects a marriage of European technique and Caribbean ingredients. Seafood is central, sourced daily from the local fish market just down the road. A standout since opening in 1997 is Savaneta’s Seafood History, a hearty dish that changes with the morning’s catch. Steaks and creative appetisers round out the offerings. Desserts draw from France, Holland and Argentina – a nod to the island’s diverse influences. The kitchen presents each plate with care, making the food as memorable as the view.
Flying Fishbone’s wine list is extensive, and the staff are knowledgeable about pairings. The restaurant received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2016, recognising the depth and quality of its selection. Whether you’re ordering a full bottle or an after-dinner cocktail, the drinks complement the Caribbean seafood and the ocean breeze.
