The story

Gasthof Herrnhaus Brixlegg: Four Generations of Tyrolean Regional Cuisine

The Moigg Legacy

Gasthof Herrnhaus in Brixlegg serves refined Austrian regional cuisine within walls that have hosted travelers since a documented mention in fourteen sixteen. The Moigg family has guided this Tyrolean gasthaus for four generations, taking over full responsibility in twenty twenty two when Lukas and Maximilian succeeded their father Christian. A severe postwar bombing required careful reconstruction, leaving behind the historic fabric that still frames the dining rooms today. Their stewardship keeps the kitchen firmly rooted in local sourcing while preparing the tables for tomorrow.

The Kitchen and Signature Plates

Chef Lukas Moigg learned the craft watching his father work before completing formal training across Tirol, Munich, and Salzburg. His kitchen balances straightforward traditional methods with modern creative techniques, keeping the core of the Austrian regional cuisine intact. Wild venison arrives directly from the family hunt in Kramsach, while beef and pork come from the local Bio Metzgerei Juffinger. His consistent approach earned a Gault & Millau hat in twenty twenty, recognized through precise plates like a crisp Beiriedschnitte, a tender veal fillet, and a smooth coffee and banana dessert.

Historic Rooms and Cellar

Antique timbered rooms and exposed Gothic vaults create a quiet backdrop for the daily service. Sommelier Maximilian Moigg curates a cellar holding more than two hundred Austrian and international labels, pairing them carefully with the evolving Austrian regional cuisine served here. Guests preferring open air can reserve a table in the shaded guest garden beneath mature chestnut trees. The combination of polished historical architecture and an active wine program gives visitors a tangible sense of place without overwhelming the palate.

Located at Herrnhausplatz 1 is the Gasthof Herrnhaus, an authentic traditional inn that the Moigg family has been operating for four generations. The house was first documented in 1416; today, its historic ambiance serves as the backdrop for refined regional cuisine. Alongside the classics by head chef Christian, guests can choose from three menus. We opt for the gourmet menu: following a slice of beef tenderloin comes asparagus-sherry-vanilla soup, octopus, and veal fillet, before ending with a rich and creamy coffee & banana dessert.
