The story

Das Himmelwärts in Feldkirch: Alpine Austrian Cuisine with Gault & Millau Recognition

The Kitchen and Its Standards

Das Himmelwärts in Feldkirch anchors a refined Austrian cuisine establishment within an alpine resort setting. Chef Nicole Sturn directs this elevated space above the property’s rustic ground-floor restaurant. All meat and fish arrive exclusively from domestic suppliers. This strict regional commitment recently earned the venue a 13-point rating from Gault & Millau for 2026 while the team maintains exacting standards across every plate.

Signature Plates and Pairings

Guests begin their meals with backfrische Wurzelbrot served alongside Grammelschmalz, aged goat cheese, and cured bacon. A precisely layered Beef Tatar follows as a structured starter before the main course arrives. Steaks and freshwater selections reach their target doneness through careful temperature control. Sommelier Michelle Morik pairs each selection with a transparently priced wine list that reflects the restaurant’s dedication to Austrian cooking.

Alpine Setting and Layout

A staircase separates the casual dining room below from this more formal tasting environment. Large windows frame uninterrupted views of the Vorarlberg mountain range during evening service. The owners, Heinz Farmer and Georg Löser, designed the layout to keep the alpine atmosphere accessible yet distinctly separate from the camping grounds. Families and independent travelers often book dinner to experience this focused Austrian cuisine after exploring the nearby trails or ski slopes.

De-luxe Alpencamping attracts guests not only with its picturesque location, but also boasts an outstanding culinary selection. From the rustic "Restaurant Garfrenga," which serves regional cuisine, a staircase leads up to "Das Himmelwärts," the establishment's gourmet restaurant. Here, the focus is on meat and fish—both sourced exclusively from Austria. A flawless start is provided by both the freshly baked root vegetable bread with lard, goat cheese, and bacon, and the exquisitely flavorful beef tartare. The steak and fish selections are prepared precisely to the desired level of doneness and can optionally be accompanied by a wide array of side dishes. Sommelier Michelle Morik complements the meal with an exceptionally reasonably priced wine pairing.
