The story

illvy: Award-Winning Austrian Cuisine in Feldkirch’s Historic Cellar

The Kitchen and Its Philosophy

illvy delivers a straightforward approach to Austrian cuisine within a preserved cellar space in Feldkirch. Andreas Zeindlinger leads the brigade while drawing on lessons from his parents, who founded the brasserie and granted him complete creative latitude. Every plate follows a strict rule regarding quality standards, prioritizing honest preparation over theatrical presentation. That disciplined method secured thirteen points in the 2026 Gault & Millau guide, with critics noting the consistent reliability across multiple visits.

Signature Plates and Seasonal Focus

The Austrian kitchen builds menus around whole ingredients rather than heavy sauces or complex arrangements. Grilled salt meadow lamb sits alongside stuffed pasta pockets that shift between orange fillet fillings and autumnal black truffles. A breaded cutlet prepared house style functions as a permanent menu anchor for returning diners. Even the final course maintains this exact standard, with the chocolate soufflé serving as a dependable closer after lighter seafood starters like marinated fish or spring water char.

The Cellar Setting and Service

Stone arches and vaulted ceilings define the dining room along the pedestrian Marktgasse. Outdoor tables spill into the covered walkways during warmer months, allowing natural light to reach the lower level. Tanja Müller manages the floor as maitre, steering the service pace toward a relaxed evening rhythm. The establishment pauses operations midweek to allow the team to reset before reopening for weekend service.

Head chef and proprietor Andreas Zeindlinger offers a highly reliable cuisine in his vaulted cellar restaurant in Feldkirch's old town. In summer, you can also take a seat under the arcades or in the Marktgasse, i.e., the pedestrian zone. From marinated fish as an appetizer to wonderful dumpling soups, spring-water trout, octopus and tuna, or skillfully grilled salt-meadow lamb, as well as stuffed pastry pockets – for example filled with orange fillets or seasonally accompanied by black truffle – up to the classics like beef steak or Cordon bleu "in the house style" (here a bestseller!): everything here is prepared with love! You simply cannot miss "illvy's chocolate soufflé" to finish off the meal. A small but refined wine selection. Friendly service.
