The story

Gasthaus an der Kreuzung in Hollabrunn | Traditional Austrian Dining

Gasthaus an der Kreuzung in Hollabrunn delivers solid Austrian cuisine that balances tradition with careful regional sourcing.

The family behind the kitchen

Manfred and Martina Hausgnost have guided this establishment since 1993. They run the operation as a family business alongside a dedicated team. Manfred handles local ingredient procurement while his wife oversees the dining room flow. Their approach prioritizes steady hospitality over fleeting trends.

Seasonal plates and regional sourcing

The menu rotates between daily specials, a four-course tasting option, and standard à la carte selections. Current offerings feature smoked trout with cucumber cream, rose seared veal loin with sautéed porcini mushrooms, and homemade parmesan gnocchi. Diners can also order classic Austrian cooking staples like liver dumpling soup, baked carp fillet, or Blunzengröstl. A dedicated wine partner supplies the cellar, while local beers and specialty teas round out the beverage list.

The dining rooms and garden

Guests choose between a traditional guest room seating twenty-five people, a larger auxiliary hall, or the outdoor terrace during warmer months. The staff moves quickly through these spaces, maintaining a cheerful pace throughout service hours. Kitchen operations run continuously from late morning until evening, allowing visitors to drop in for lunch or stay for dinner. This setup supports both quick weekday bites and extended weekend gatherings.

Traditional inns like the Hausgnost are hard to find these days. Whether in the parlors, dining room, or beer garden: here you are served promptly and cheerfully. In a stylish ambiance, traditional home-style dishes made from seasonal ingredients are served alongside excellent specialties of Austrian cuisine: a delicious liver dumpling or meat strudel soup, baked carp fillet, paprika chicken, the "House Cordon Bleu", roast beef, pan-fried blood sausage, or gentleman's goulash. A paradise if you're not a detractor of solid inn fare! From the dessert corner come incredibly light and fluffy cream dumplings with sour cherry ragout, making for a perfect finale.
