The story

Lichtblick Innsbruck: Seasonal Dining Above the City Rooftops

The Kitchen Philosophy

Lichtblick in Innsbruck anchors its approach to Austrian cuisine in regional sourcing and strict seasonal timing. Chef Gabriel Mauracher leads a team that drafts fresh menus daily, balancing straightforward ingredients with precise techniques. This steady commitment to quality earned the venue a solid 12.5 rating from Gault&Millau. Guests can trace how local produce shapes every plate without unnecessary complexity.

Plates and Pairings

Evening service shifts into three rotating three-course menus that highlight careful execution. A lightly cured Matjes herring often opens the progression, followed by a rosy seared Maibock back cooked to a tender finish. Sweet endings lean toward rich dark chocolate paired with tart raspberry and a light fruit sorbet. The cellar supports these choices within the broader framework of Austrian cuisine, featuring a carefully curated selection focused on domestic vintages.

Space and Views

Large glass panels frame the Tyrolean peaks, and an urban-relaxed interior keeps the overall mood grounded. The elevated position places the dining room well above the historic rooftops, creating a bright environment for both midday coffee and late dinners. A spacious terrace extends the same airy feel into warmer months. Every table captures the shifting light over the valley below.

No wonder it’s called Lichtblick: High above the rooftops of Innsbruck, it is simply exceptionally light and airy – both on the terrace and in the relaxed urban interior, from which you can look out at the mountains through large panoramic windows. The kitchen provides another highlight: in the evening, you choose your favorite from three three-course menus. We opt for matjes herring, pink-seared young wild boar loin, and an indulgent variation of chocolate, raspberry, and sorbet. A lovely wine list with a focus on Austria.
