The story
At Das Markthof in Siegersdorf, near Tulln, the Edhofer family has merged their working farm with a serious fine-dining restaurant. The cooking is rooted in what the farm produces: vegetables from the garden, meat from their own Angus cattle, pigs, and chickens, and grains from surrounding fields. The restaurant itself occupies a former hunting lodge, set among pastures where horses, pigs, and goats roam. It is an unconventional, honest setting that reflects the family’s character.
The kitchen is led by chefs Fabian Schasching and Max Eichberger, who previously cooked together at the acclaimed Steirereck (both in Vienna and at Am Pogusch) and later worked under Josef Floh. Schasching also spent time with Thomas Dorfer at Landhaus Bacher. Their approach is clear: classic cuisine built on uncompromising quality, with a deep respect for seasonality and a commitment to "from nose to tail" cooking. Every dish is composed with the farm’s own products, supplemented by carefully chosen regional producers.
The restaurant’s dedication to high-level, ingredient-driven cooking has earned it a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, an award that recognizes good quality, good value cooking. This recognition is woven naturally into the restaurant’s ethos: the team’s ambition is to spoil guests with top-tier produce while staying authentic and grounded. The menu changes with the seasons — spring brings wild garlic, for example — and is supported by an extensive wine list curated to match the kitchen’s character.
The atmosphere is relaxed and familial, with the energy of a working farm surrounding the dining room. The chefs work as a strong, quiet team, and their philosophy is evident in every bite: never dogmatic, always respectful of the product. Beyond the restaurant, the family runs a farm shop where guests can take home the same high-quality products — sausages, pâtés, smoked bacon, oils, and more — available around the clock in a self-service shop. Das Markthof offers breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays, and serves lunch and dinner from Thursday through Sunday. It is a place where the land, the kitchen, and the table are one.
