The story

Die Yacht Restaurant Review: Modern Austrian Cuisine in Velden am Wörthersee

The kitchen and its direction

Die Yacht in Velden am Wörthersee approaches Austrian cuisine with a steady hand. Kitchen chief Marcel Vanic guides the preparation alongside maître Katja Fahlberg, who manages the floor with quiet precision. Their approach favors clean technique over heavy theatrics. Guests receive their meals through a coordinated service model that opens daily after six o’clock.

Regional plates and lake ingredients

The menu treats regional cooking as a study in local geography. A marinated trout portion arrives with delicate caviar blinis and crisp cucumber slices. Bear garlic soup follows, carrying just enough forest aroma while resting on a bed of smoked meat dumplings. Roasted milk pig cuts pair with shredded cabbage and soft potato parcels, finishing the savory sequence before a simple poppy seed dumpling closes the evening.

Service rhythm and dining space

The dining room maintains a structured layout that supports the restaurant’s 13-point Gault&Millau rating. Every plate leaves the pass with measured plating and consistent temperatures. The team operates within the broader casino complex, which requires guests to verify identification upon arrival. That procedural step keeps the flow orderly without interrupting the actual meal.

With Executive Chef Marcel Vanic metaphorically at the helm and a motivated, professional crew, the restaurant Die Yacht is well anchored in the harbor of the Velden Casino. The dishes, such as pickled trout served with caviar blinis and cucumber, or a not-too-intense wild garlic foam soup featuring smoked meat dumplings – we are in Carinthia, after all – arrive at the table expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The crown and belly of suckling pig with pointed cabbage and dumplings are equally flawless. One would only wish for a touch more “soul,” however, as even the poppy seed dumplings to finish are technically perfect, leaving the impression that one is dining at a very, very high-quality franchise. Important note at the end: Do not forget your ID, as check-in takes place at the casino.
