The story

Beaulieu Vienna: Authentic French Bistrot in Palais Ferstel Passage

A Quiet Corner in the Passage

Beaulieu brings authentic French cooking to a quiet corner of the Palais Ferstel passage in Vienna. Owners Anna and Christoph Heinrich discovered their passion for the region during a holiday and later completed formal wine studies before opening the doors. The space earned an eleven-point rating from Gault Millau for delivering consistent delicacies and a carefully curated wine program. Visitors trade the city noise for a setting built around lingering conversations and small daily pleasures.

Straightforward Kitchen Traditions

The menu prioritizes familiar bistrot standards over heavy theatricality. Midday service rotates around a dedicated lunch table, while the main list highlights knife-cut steak tartare, croque-monsieur, and tartine bretonne. Seasonal plates shift regularly, though Provençal cod with ratatouille remains a steady anchor. A glass-fronted shop area displays regional cheeses, preserved delicacies, and bottled spirits for customers who want to take a piece of the menu home.

Wine Culture and Evening Service

French viticulture shapes the entire beverage program, drawing directly from the founders’ academic training and years spent working across traditional kitchens. Champagne flows freely alongside curated reds and fortified wines. Diners often gather near the specialty food displays during evening hours, where the pace slows considerably. Service continues until twenty-three, allowing plenty of time for extended dinners or quiet nightcaps before closing.

French delicatessen, an unparalleled selection of cheeses, gourmet foods, wines, and spirits from the culinary paradise of the gods – Beaulieu in the Palais Ferstel Passage (which even features a courtyard!) is a piece of France in the heart of Vienna. A visit here certainly feels like a moment of culinary bliss straight out of Paris, especially when bistrot classics such as Tartine Bretonne, steak tartare au couteau, or Croque-Monsieur are served. Of course, moules and an aromatic bouillabaisse are also must-haves! Bon appétit!
