The story

Café Caché Vienna | French-Austrian Dining & Modern European Kitchen

Origins and Culinary Vision

Café Caché brings its French-Austrian cuisine to the Meiselstraße district in Vienna, where founder Lisa Machian blends native ingredients with years spent cooking in Paris and working in London. Born into a family of hoteliers, she treats the kitchen as a continuous gathering place rather than a rigid service schedule. This steady approach earned the venue a 12.5 score from Gault&Millau, which praised the establishment for delivering consistent quality from morning until late night. Regional suppliers provide the foundation while international training shapes the technique.

Signature Dishes and Pairings

The evening menu centers on shareable plates that reflect Lisa’s travels and technical background. Guests frequently order Der weinende Tiger, a marinated flank steak that draws inspiration from classic Thai preparations but tones down the heat so the beef takes center stage. Afternoon visitors regularly return for house-made galettes that critics call the finest in the city. The beverage program leans toward peppery wines that complement the spice profiles, while the cocktail list offers sharper, modern alternatives tailored to this European kitchen.

Atmosphere and Hosting

Arnaud channels a decade of Parisian restaurant management into the front-of-house experience, treating every guest arrival as a personal welcome. The dining space balances French architectural touches with subtle English sensibilities, creating a setting that feels familiar rather than formal. Staff members reference Vienna as Lisa’s hometown and treat the venue as a shared living room rather than a commercial endpoint. The result is a quiet confidence that lets the food speak without theatrical interruption.

Café Caché on Meiselstraße provides exactly what many are looking for or need: all-day dining – purely in a culinary sense. There is a respectable breakfast, no less impressive selection of lunch dishes, the city’s best galettes in the afternoon, and in the evening a truly exquisite menu featuring dishes to share. Our favorite: “The Weeping Tiger”. Not quite as spicy as the original from Thai cuisine, but a marinated flank steak so good it could easily bring tears to your eyes. Peppery wines, witty cocktails. Address: Meiselstraße 2, 1150 Vienna, Austria. Contact: bonjour@cafecache.at https://www.cafecache.at/ Opening hours: Wed–Sat 9 AM–10 PM. Team: Lisa Machian, Chef; Jürgen Bambalan, Sous Chef.
