The story

Lugeck Vienna: A Modern Take on Classic Viennese Cuisine in the Historic Regensburg Court

The Figlmüller family and their kitchen

At Lugeck in Vienna, brothers Hans and Thomas Figlmüller brought their grandmother’s cookbooks into the modern era to revive classic Viennese cuisine. They wanted to recreate the feeling of old taverns where people gather around good food rather than screens. Chef Nenad Petkov now guides the kitchen, balancing deep roots with lighter seasonal twists that keep the menu fresh year round. This grounded approach to traditional Viennese cooking recently secured a Gault&Millau score of 12.

Dishes that honor tradition

The kitchen serves a robust lineup of heritage recipes alongside contemporary alternatives. You can order the Wiener Schnitzel with a potato field salad or try the truffle schnitzel topped with freshly shaved black truffle. Vegetarians often choose the red lentil curry or the curd cheese filled Kärntner Kasnudeln dressed in brown butter and mint. Every plate arrives with their house baked sourdough bread slathered in caramelized creamy butter.

The historic setting and drinks

The dining room sits inside the Regensburg Court, a structure dating back to the fourteenth century that once hosted Habsburg royalty. Architects Eichinger Offices updated the interior while preserving the original corner towers that originally gave the address its name. Guests wash down their meals with the house brewed Lugeck Spezial beer or a glass of Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel region. Dessert menus feature sweet cream strudel and curd dumplings paired with strawberry preserves.

The Lugeck is impossible to miss, having made itself at home in one of the most beautiful buildings in the city center. True to its historic atmosphere, the tavern-style kitchen stands as a culinary landmark. World-renowned classics such as Wiener Schnitzel are just as much a part of the menu as pub burgers, Lugeck steak, or Tafelspitz. Those who think time has stood still are greatly mistaken: cauliflower curry, veggie burgers, and bowls delight vegetarian guests as well. Learn the art of breading at the Viennese Schnitzel Academy.
