The story
Motto am Fluss delivers modern international cuisine along the Vienna waterfront, a concept launched by founder Bernd in 2010. Chef Markus now directs the kitchen after extensive training at the Steirereck and Hotel Sacher. He applies a purist modern approach to both established classics and fresh seasonal plates. Every dish relies on locally sourced produce, while house-baked bread and patisserie desserts arrive directly from the adjacent kitchen.
Reviewers from Gault Millau recently highlighted the restaurant during a 12-point inspection, noting how the contemporary menu balances international techniques with an Austrian cooking tradition. Guests often start with the salmon ceviche dressed in a bright lime and mango marinade. A later course features herb-crusted rack of lamb that pairs cleanly with roasted vegetables. The meal typically concludes with a lemon pavlova served alongside vanilla thyme ice cream.
Expansive sliding glass panels frame the Danube Canal view, allowing guests to watch the water from classic Venetian chairs. Unpretentious seating arrangements create a relaxed evening environment where live DJs perform on the outdoor terrace. Large wooden tables accommodate everything from quiet business meetings to extended weekend dinners.
