The Bank Brasserie & Bar: Modern French Bistro Cooking in Vienna

A refined approach to French bistro cooking

The Bank Brasserie & Bar anchors itself in the historic center of Vienna with a clear focus on French bistro cuisine. Chef Andy Piesche recently took over the kitchen and set out to elevate traditional brasserie standards. His approach balances straightforward technique with careful ingredient selection. Recent attention from Gault&Millau highlights how well this culinary direction has taken root, rewarding a kitchen that prioritizes consistency over fleeting trends.

Signature plates and seasonal highlights

The menu features familiar bistro staples executed with precision. Beef tartare and ceviche arrive dressed in clean, bright flavors that set a steady tone for the meal. Mussels served with crispy fries provide a reliable comfort anchor, while braised lamb accompanied by potato gratin offers richer autumnal depth. The fluffy sour cream noodle dish stands out as a consistent favorite among regulars.

Atmosphere and evening service

Polished surfaces and structured seating create a calm backdrop for conversation within the main dining area. The layout naturally guides visitors toward the adjoining bar when dinner concludes. Mixologists there craft signature drinks designed to extend the evening comfortably. Diners visiting this Vienna location will find a steady hand guiding every course alongside a relaxed rhythm that suits both midday visits and late night gatherings.

The new head chef Andy Piesche has set himself the goal of keeping French bistro cuisine alive and thriving. He accomplishes this quite effectively in the breathtaking atmosphere. While the beef tartare and ceviche could have used a bit more seasoning, they still make for a solid start to the evening. The moules-frites and the pan-fried lamb with potato gratin are both highly recommended. The true highlight, however, is the fluffy sour cream spaetzle. Those who do not wish to end the evening yet can head over to the bar to enjoy one of the signature drinks.
