The story
On the quay of Ath, a duo of young chefs has turned an old building into a destination for modern cuisine. Maxence Bouralha and Charles-Maxime Legrand, friends since their days at the local hotel school, bought the place in 2016 and spent four months transforming it. The result is a warm, contemporary dining room behind an elegant façade, where the cooking matches the setting.
The two chefs bring serious credentials. Both worked at Le Funambule in Sirault, then went their separate ways through two-star kitchens: Maxence at Sea Grill and Le Château du Mylord, Charles-Maxime at Nuance and Sea Grill, with a stint at La Tavola in between. At Quai n°4, Maxence handles the savoury side, Charles-Maxime the sweet. Their partnership extends beyond the kitchen—they are brothers-in-law.
The restaurant earned a Michelin star in 2022, a recognition it has held consistently. Gault&Millau scores it 14.5/20, named it Discovery of the Year in 2021, and awarded it Best Dessert of the Year in 2024. The front-of-house team, led by maître d’hôtel Vincent Collard (runner-up in the 2026 Premier Maître d’Hôtel de Belgique competition) and sommelier Juan Chacana Hernandez, brings the same level of care to service and wine pairing.
The menu changes with the seasons. The kitchen’s contemporary gastronomic style is built on precise technique and clear flavours, with Charles-Maxime’s desserts a particular highlight. The setting is intimate, the atmosphere relaxed—the kind of place where a meal becomes an unhurried experience.
Quai n°4 is a restaurant that feels both ambitious and personal, run by a team that clearly enjoys working together. It is a strong reason to visit Ath.
