The story
Den Duyventooren takes its name from an 18th‑century dovecote that still stands at the entrance of a restored castle farm in Bellem, a village just outside Aalter. The restaurant occupies that same farmstead, now fitted with a completely renewed, atmospheric interior. When the weather cooperates, the terrace offers a calm spot to dine outdoors.
Chef Inge Herteleer works with daily‑fresh produce, much of it grown in her own garden. Her cooking is grounded in Modern French technique but stays focused on what is in season. The three‑course choice menu, which changes regularly, is priced at €57 and might include dishes such as sesame‑seared tuna sashimi with a wasabi sorbet, followed by a fish of the day or a grilled tagliata, and a pavlova or vanilla ice cream from the region. A lighter business lunch at €30 is served on Monday, Thursday and Friday midday and includes a starter, a main course, and coffee with petits fours. À la carte is also available.
In 2026 Den Duyventooren earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to the consistent quality of its Modern French cuisine and the care that goes into sourcing and preparation. The setting – a blend of historic farmhouse and contemporary comfort – makes it a fitting place for both a weekday lunch and a leisurely dinner.
