The story
On the main square of Braine-l'Alleud, Max & Moi serves a modern interpretation of French cuisine that honours Belgian terroir. The kitchen is led by Chef Julien Hauspie, who spent four years as sous-chef at the two-Michelin-starred La Paix before joining owners Pina and Maxime to open this restaurant. The team sources local produce through short supply chains, and the cooking is described as “vibrant and passionate” – a phrase that captures the energy of the place.
The restaurant earned a spot in the Michelin Guide, recognised for its sincere, professional hospitality and the precision of Hauspie’s cooking. The service, orchestrated by Pina and Maxime themselves, is warm and attentive, making each guest feel at home from the moment they step in.
The offerings change with the seasons and market arrivals. At lunch, the Menu du Lunch (5 sequences, €59) offers a compact introduction to the chef’s style. For a deeper exploration, the Menu Pieds sur Terre (9 sequences, €82) is served only at midday, while the Menu Tête en l’Air (12 sequences, €99) is available at all services. A Chef’s Suggestion (€21 supplement) extends the experience on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Recent sequences include Hamachi with chicken skin and courgette, leek-cress-oyster, and a warm-cold composition of pork and langoustine. The wine pairings are offered in 4 or 5 services (€44 and €55), with a non-alcoholic “BOB” option available.
Chef Hauspie works alongside sous-chef Lucas Mertens-Heris, who brings rigour and creativity to the daily service. In the dining room, Maxence and the owners ensure a relaxed yet polished atmosphere. The kitchen also includes young cook Momo, learning the craft alongside the team. The result is a restaurant where the food is personal, the produce is local, and the welcome is genuine.
