The story
Just outside Bruges, in the village of Lissewege, the Dendooven family runs Hof Ter Doest. This restaurant, recognised by Michelin as Recommended, welcomes guests in the best Flemish tradition: a warm, unpretentious atmosphere where the focus is on straightforward hospitality and excellent food. The setting is comfortable and relaxed, with a service that feels effortless.
The kitchen at Hof Ter Doest draws heavily from the surrounding coast and countryside. Maritime specialties are a cornerstone: oysters and lobster are kept in a vivier with fresh seawater, while Zeebrugge shrimp, eel and sole appear regularly on the menu. The Grill cuisine is particularly evident in the meat dishes, many of which come from the family’s own farm. With 62 hectares of pasture and roughly 100 animals, only the best cuts are used. In season, game such as pheasant and partridge are the great favourites.
Hof Ter Doest is known for its extensive wine list, which spans twelve pages and includes all the major wine houses alongside familiar restaurant classics. It is a cellar designed to complement the robust flavours of the sea and the grill, offering plenty of choices by the bottle. For those who prefer to enjoy the same dishes at home, a takeaway and catering service is also available, covering everything from small events to festive banquets.
