The story
With an impressive career and a passion for refined gastronomy, chef Geert Van Hecke welcomes guests to his intimate restaurant in the heart of Bruges. The setting is classic and understated, allowing the food to take centre stage. This commitment to excellence earned Zet’Joe a Michelin star, a recognition of its high-quality cooking and consistent execution.
The menu is a celebration of French technique applied to the best of Belgian and French produce. Dishes such as baked scallops with coral mousse, curry and coconut, or Flemish rabbit à la royale with dark beer sauce and goose liver show a kitchen that balances precision with bold flavour. The à la carte features seasonal ingredients like chicories, hops sprouts from Poperinge, and line-caught seabass. A standout is the “Pithivier” of poultry, black truffle from Richerenches, salsify, and goose liver – a dish that requires 24 hours’ notice and speaks to the chef’s dedication to detail.
Two tasting menus are offered: “Flat land” (107 €) and the more elaborate “Brugge die Scone” (193 €), both served per table and built around the best of the season. The wine list, noted for its interesting selections, complements the menu thoughtfully.
The restaurant’s motto, “Memories are made when gathered around the table,” captures the spirit of Zet’Joe. Whether for a special dinner or a custom-planned event, the experience is one of genuine hospitality and culinary craft. Geert Van Hecke’s career, rooted in the former De Karmeliet, is now fully expressed here – a place where French cuisine meets Flemish soul.
