The story
After the success of their previous restaurant, L’Amandier de Genval, the Volkaerts family turned their attention to the quiet place Communale in Céroux-Mousty. The square had lost its culinary anchor when the former “Maison Communale” closed. Les Tilleuls brought it back to life, offering a place where neighbours and visitors alike gather for honest, flavourful food.
The kitchen’s philosophy is simple: cook what the market offers, and change the menu weekly. This is home cooking in the best sense – rooted in seasonal produce, prepared with care, and served without pretence. The cuisine is described as “délicate, gourmande et résolument bistronomique” – delicate, generous, and firmly in the bistronomic tradition. Lunchtime brings a weekday formula: an entrée and plat for €30, or just the plat for €20, both built around that week’s best ingredients.
In 2026, Michelin awarded Les Tilleuls a “Recommended” distinction, recognising the consistent quality and market-driven approach. It’s a fitting nod to a kitchen that lets the produce speak for itself. The dining room spills onto an outdoor terrace when weather allows, making it a natural stop for a leisurely lunch or dinner.
While the family keeps a low profile, their imprint is clear: a warm welcome, a room that feels both familiar and refined, and a menu that respects tradition without being stuck in it. The result is a restaurant that feels like it belongs – to the square, to the season, and to anyone who appreciates genuine home cooking.
