The story
That conviction drives Un Max de Goût, the Comblain-au-Pont restaurant where chef Max Zimmer plates a thoroughly personal style of modern cuisine. Originally from Sprimont, Zimmer left his hometown to settle along the Ourthe River, in a house that blends stone, glass and wood against the backdrop of the Roches grises. Here, with Erika running the dining room with warmth and efficiency, he created his restaurant — and quickly began delighting everyone who came through the door.
The kitchen works with quality products and favours local purchases. Zimmer is always on the lookout for original preparations, creating research-driven dishes high in flavour and marked by a very personal generosity. The result is a no-frills gastronomic experience that suits business meals, romantic dinners, or simply anyone who wants a good time over a delicious meal.
That approach earned the restaurant a Michelin star, a recognition of high-quality cooking that feels entirely earned. The June menu, for example, offers several paths: the Menu Prestige (six services, €110) features veal with cucumber and oysters, courgette with fresh cheese and basil, peach of the day with peas and verbena, lobster with carrots and cardamom, pigeon with cherries and beans, and strawberries with vanilla and Timut pepper. The Menu Maxime et Erika (five services, €95) and Menu Evasion (four services, €75) offer shorter, equally compelling journeys. A Petite Decouverte menu (three services, €60) is available at lunch. Wine pairings and non-alcoholic accords are offered for each.
The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, has outdoor seating, and welcomes children. Formal attire is suggested. Tasting menus are available, and the atmosphere is one of genuine hospitality — a place where the art of cooking is shared generously, without pretension.
