The story
In the quiet village of Sorinnes, just outside Dinant, Bistro Gourmand brings a fresh, honest energy to the French bistronomy scene. Chef Matthieu Chalmagne and Christel run the dining room, offering a welcoming space where the pleasure of taste is the clear priority. The restaurant is part of the Wave Distil distillery, and that spirit of craft runs through everything here.
The menu changes every two weeks, shaped by what is in season and what inspires the chef. Local sourcing is central: ingredients come from nearby farms such as Ferme Pesesse and Ferme Piette in Thynes, Ferme de Linciaux, and fromagerie “Le Bonheur est dans le Pré” in Ciney. This commitment to terroir earned the restaurant the “Table de Terroir” label in 2024. Guests choose between a three-course (42 €) or four-course (52 €) menu, which includes an amuse-bouche, entrée, main, and either dessert or cheese.
Diners can sit in one of two distinct rooms. The main dining room features an open kitchen, where you can watch the chef at work. A smaller, quieter space near the bar offers a more intimate atmosphere, with walls displaying paintings by Thierry Van Renterghem, the master distiller and an accomplished painter. In warmer months, there is also a terrace.
The restaurant’s quality has been noted by the Michelin Guide, which includes Bistro Gourmand among its recommended addresses. It is a place that balances refinement with ease, letting the ingredients and the season speak for themselves.
