The story
Since 2003, A Food Affair has evolved from a classic wok restaurant into a celebrated Eastern inspired restaurant in the heart of Gent. Chef Laurent Locquet brings a deep passion for Southeast Asian cuisine, honed through years of travel and a culinary career that began under Wout Bru. His cooking is defined by fresh ingredients, precise timing, and a philosophy that gives each component its own moment to shine—ensuring vegetables stay crisp and flavors remain vibrant.
The menu is a true reflection of a Thai-Vietnamese kitchen, marked by fresh and spicy accents. Standouts include a crispy chicken spring roll with a sweet-sour mango dipping sauce, and a Thai salad of blue-seared entrecote with papaya, cucumber, and red onion, all dressed in a secret green sauce packed with herbs. The panang curry, served with a flavorful grilled Holstein beef rump, delivers a pleasant heat. Portions are notably generous, and the pricing remains sharp—a combination that has kept regulars returning for years.
A Food Affair’s authenticity and consistency earned it the title of Asian Restaurant of the Year 2024 from Gault&Millau, and it is now also Michelin Recommended for 2026. The recognition underscores what guests have long known: this is a place where Eastern-inspired cooking is executed with skill and integrity.
The atmosphere is relaxed and contemporary, with a cozy interior and a pleasant terrace for warmer evenings. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a first-time visitor, the warmth of the welcome and the depth of the flavors make every meal an occasion.
