The story

Amour Restaurant Ghent: Seasonal Vegetarian Dining on Sint-Salvatorstraat

The kitchen and its founders

Amour brings seasonal vegetarian cooking to Sint-Salvatorstraat in Ghent under the guidance of siblings Johanna and Yassin Pycke. They closed their previous venue Pycke Zot to dedicate themselves fully to this project. The kitchen reduces food waste by letting market availability dictate the weekly menu. Guests simply choose how much to place on their plates from the daily counter.

A rotating selection of plates

The vegetarian kitchen rotates its offerings daily, leaning heavily toward vegetable focused preparations. Recent offerings featured a creamy carrot and pumpkin dip alongside pickled radish and marinated mushrooms. Warm plates shift quickly through the week, often highlighting miso roasted pointed cabbage or endive finished with a rich vegan bechamel. House made desserts like brownie and tiramisu pair well with house brewed kombucha or freshly squeezed citrus drinks.

Bright spaces and a generous terrace

Red brick walls meet polished concrete floors and exposed pipework throughout the dining room. The layout feels open and deliberately uncluttered. The restaurant welcomes groups of up to fifteen diners for weekday lunches and Friday evening dinners. Guests easily transition to a substantial outdoor terrace when the weather turns favorable, a setup praised by reviewers who recently noted the restaurant's Le Fooding listing.

Given the name, we almost expected to receive a huge welcoming hug from Johanna and Yassin Pycke as we entered their joint. It’s true, it’s pretty cozy inside this veggie-friendly eatery run by the aforementioned siblings, who have definitively shut down Pycke Zot, in order to start afresh, slightly further away from Ghent’s city center. Inside the bright space with an industrial vibe (red brick walls, polished concrete floors, exposed pipework), come ogle the lunchtime dishes lined up on the display counter, before piling your plate up high. Our buffet selection included: a creamy carrot and pumpkin dip, pickled radish, yummy marinated mushrooms, roasted celeriac and a handful of lime-roasted sweet potatoes, for the flawless cold appetizers; followed by some sassy miso-roasted pointed cabbage with spring onions, some decent roasted endive with vegan bechamel sauce, or even an herby minced pork and beef stew. Got a sweet tooth? Dame blanche sundaes, brownie or tiramisu, to be enjoyed on the huuuuge terrace which sits pretty in summer, for a shot of vitamin D. // Aline Flamme
