The story
Since the late 1920s, Brasserie Patyntje has been a fixture on the banks of the Lys River in Ghent. Housed in a charming colonial-style villa, the restaurant offers a setting that feels both timeless and welcoming. The terrace, with its direct view over the water, is a particular draw – a spot where the city’s pace slows down.
The kitchen stays true to its roots. Patyntje’s signature dishes are the classics of Flemish cuisine: a rich, slow-cooked Flemish stew, a generous vol-au-vent, and sole meunière, simply prepared. These are the dishes that have defined the restaurant for generations, and they remain the heart of the menu. The cooking is straightforward, confident, and focused on flavour.
Patyntje is part of the Les Brasseries de Breyne group, which includes several other well-known spots in and around Ghent. The restaurant itself is more than a place to eat – it also offers three separate meeting rooms overlooking the river, free parking with an electric car charging station, and the option to rent boats or Vespas. It’s a versatile spot, equally suited to a leisurely lunch, a private event, or a business gathering.
The restaurant’s long-standing reputation and consistent quality have earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, a fitting recognition for a place that has been serving the city for nearly a century.
