The story
In the rolling green landscapes of Herve, chef Sébastien Brela runs a restaurant that lives up to its name. l'Epicurien is a place for those who love life and good food. The chef describes his cooking as "cuisine française, certes traditionnelle, mais teintée d’un brin d’originalité" – French cuisine, certainly traditional, but tinged with a touch of originality. Every dish is built on fresh, varied ingredients, sourced with care.
This philosophy has not gone unnoticed. The restaurant has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide, a recognition for good quality, good value cooking. The team’s passion has also earned a glowing review from the influential Gault & Millau guide.
The menu changes monthly. A recent three-service menu (53€) offered choices like a crispy royal sea bream with ham and artichokes, or a vegetarian focaccia with wild garlic pesto and burrata. Mains might include a veal cutlet with liquorice and passion fruit, or a seasonal fish with star anise crustacean jus. Desserts range from a strawberry and lychee floating island to a Dame Blanche. For a more spontaneous experience, the weekday "Bon Plan" (Wednesday and Thursday evenings) includes an aperitif, a three-course menu, and a selection of wines for 55€.
At lunch, the chef’s mood dictates the menu. These midday lunches are concocted from the day’s fresh produce and offered at an attractive price. The dining room is welcoming, and an upstairs banquet hall can host groups of up to 50 people.
Whether you come for a weekday lunch or a weekend dinner, l'Epicurien in Herve is a place where traditional French cuisine meets genuine, unpretentious hospitality.
