The story
Chef Jean-Philippe and Sara-Sofia opened their own restaurant in Ingelmunster on 8 December 2023, bringing their experience from two of Belgium’s most respected kitchens back to the region they call home. “West Flanders is a home port that lies close to my heart,” the chef says. “The best of my flavours in my region – this is what I want to bring you.”
Jean-Philippe trained at Ter Groene Poorte in Bruges before learning his craft at restaurant Boury, where he rose to sous-chef and met his wife, Sara-Sofia. Together they moved to Antwerp to join the team at The Jane – Jean-Philippe becoming the right hand of the kitchen, Sara-Sofia moving from the upper room bar to host in the dining room. After five years, they chose to leave Antwerp and start their own venture.
The cuisine is Modern French, driven by seasonal, gastronomic products and a particular love for everything the sea offers. Menus change with the supply, offering a choice of five or six courses for dinner, and a three-course lunch menu (except Sunday). On Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch, only the six-course menu is served. Sara-Sofia welcomes guests with a world of hospitality, passion and wine.
The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, confirming the quality of this young couple’s work. Tables are limited to six guests, and the serene atmosphere means babies and toddlers are not admitted.
