The story
Chef Frederik Deceuninck brings a rich culinary pedigree to Sel Gris. Before opening this Duinbergen address, he honed his craft at renowned kitchens including Karmeliet and Jardin Tropical. Since 2008, his work has earned a Michelin star, and Gault&Millau has awarded the restaurant 17 out of 20 points since 2022. Alongside Maître Dieter Ryckebosch, he creates a dining experience rooted in precision and warmth.
The kitchen’s guiding idea is “puur natuur” – pure nature. Deceuninck interprets traditional Flemish cooking through a contemporary lens, using honest, natural ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons, and each plate aims to engage all the senses, not just taste. The result is contemporary cuisine that feels both grounded and refined.
Sel Gris sits directly on the Zeedijk, the seafront promenade in Knokke, with views of the beach and North Sea. The interior is modern and stylish, offering a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. Outdoor seating allows guests to enjoy the coastal air, while the dining room stays cool with air conditioning during warmer months. Private parties are also welcome.
In 2019, Deceuninck opened a second concept, Caillou, nearby under the guidance of Sander Van De Walle and Camille Steenhuyse. It offers a different experience but shares the same commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful cooking.
