The story
At ’t Kantientje in Ramskapelle, just outside Knokke-Heist, chef Dominique Pille stays true to a simple creed: no-nonsense dishes and honest flavours. His approach earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 – a natural fit for a kitchen that relies on the best seasonal produce rather than gimmicks.
Pille’s career includes an accolade as Belgium’s best mussel cook (1995) and the Grand Prix of the Guide des Connaisseurs. But when ’t Kantientje moved from Knokke’s Lippenslaan to its current address in 2009, the menu shifted away from mussels toward other classic preparations. Today you’ll find pan-fried sole, Danish cod, homemade shrimp croquettes, and a succulent entrecôte or fillet of Irish Angus for meat lovers. Lobster lovers can choose their own from the homarium, prepared any way they like.
The menu changes with the seasons, ensuring everything arrives at the table impeccably fresh. Cold starters include Gillardeau oysters, Zeeland flat oysters, artisanal smoked salmon, beef carpaccio, turbot carpaccio, and Mangalica ham with pan de cristal.
The experience is as much about atmosphere as it is about the plate. A semi-open kitchen fills the dining room with irresistible aromas before the first course arrives. On sunny days the terrace offers a relaxed spot to enjoy the coastal air. Chef Pille commands the stove while his wife Marleen Van Den Broucke oversees the front of house with a dedicated team that has been the steady force behind ’t Kantientje for years.
The result is a restaurant that feels both refined and genuinely welcoming – the kind of place where Michelin recognition and gemoedelijkheid (cosiness) go hand in hand.
