The story
In the quiet village of Sint-Kwintens-Lennik, August Wijnbar has earned a Michelin recommendation for its refined approach to modern cuisine. Head chef Sam Verstuyf leads a small, dedicated team in a space that balances elegance with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
The kitchen works with the seasons, changing the menu every few weeks to reflect what is at its best. A recent season menu opened with Atlantic salmon gravad lax, served with hash brown and buttermilk, followed by Limousin beef vitello tonato with burrata and basil. North Sea crab ravioli with cauliflower and smoked eel, and a shrimp croquette with sea bream and young leek, show the kitchen’s precision and flair. Desserts are equally thoughtful, such as the Hand of Buddha dame blanche with mango caramel and Earl Grey.
For lunch on Thursdays and Fridays, the restaurant offers a streamlined menu at accessible prices. Guests can choose a two-course option (starter and main, or main and dessert) for €32, or the full three-course experience for €39. An all-in formula at €59 includes all courses plus two glasses of matched wine, a bottle of water, and coffee or tea with mignardises. On Sundays, only the full season menu is served.
The wine list is a central part of the experience, carefully selected to complement each dish. The team—including sous-chef Stan Goddeau and chef de partie Basti Sawicki—works closely with the front-of-house staff to ensure everything runs smoothly.
August Wijnbar will close its doors permanently on 29 March 2026, due to building renovations. Until then, the kitchen is preparing one final menu. Gift vouchers must be used before that date. It is a last chance to experience this thoughtful, ingredient-driven restaurant in Lennik.
