The story
Since 1995, Alexis Flament and his wife Nathalie have been the driving force behind Sel et Poivre in Hollain, a short drive from Tournai in the province of Hainaut. Their restaurant has become a local reference for those seeking cooking that is both generous and refined. The atmosphere is calm and cosy, with a dining room that seats around thirty guests, where the service aims to reflect the same rigour and passion that goes into every dish.
The kitchen at Sel et Poivre focuses on creative, seasonal cooking built from fresh, local produce, sourced as much as possible from organic suppliers. The restaurant works with local producers and emphasises a "farm to table" approach, preparing everything in-house. This commitment to quality and value is recognised by the Michelin guide, which awards the restaurant a Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking.
Three types of menus are offered. The "1er approche" menu, available in a three-service format, is the one that earned the Bib Gourmand distinction. The more extensive "Sel et Poivre" menu is proposed in four or five services. Both are refreshed monthly, guided by the seasons and the inspiration of the kitchen. A special "Jeune Gastronome" menu is also available on Sunday evenings.
Whether you choose the air-conditioned interior or the outdoor terrace, the focus is on a welcoming experience. Nathalie and Alexis ensure every guest is greeted with a smile. The restaurant also offers wine pairing to complement the meal, and private parties or catering can be arranged. Sel et Poivre is open for lunch on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, and for dinner from Thursday through Sunday.
