The story
Since 2007, Valérie and Pascal Mertz have welcomed guests to Les Épices Curiens, an hôtel-restaurant nestled in Écouviez, just a few steps from the Belgian border and the charming village of Torgny. The restaurant, a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient, is known for its good quality, good value cooking in the heart of Lorraine Gaumaise.
The kitchen, led by Maître restaurateur Pascal Mertz, focuses on fresh, seasonal produce. The menu changes six times a year to follow the rhythm of the market, with an emphasis on fresh herbs from the garden and spices from near and far. The result is modern cuisine that lets the ingredients speak. The weekday lunch menu is renewed every two weeks, offering a changing selection of dishes.
The wine list is carefully chosen, featuring bottles from small producers across France alongside a few more familiar names. The dining room and shaded terrace provide a warm setting for a meal, and a playroom is available for children. The restaurant also offers plats à emporter (takeaway) and a small selection of artisanal products. For larger gatherings, the private room can host up to 24 guests.
Les Épices Curiens is more than a restaurant; it also offers three comfortable guest rooms, making it an ideal base for exploring the fortified citadel of Montmédy, the basilica of Avioth, and the Abbey of Orval. The restaurant is closed for a period in late spring and again in early autumn, so it is wise to check for exact dates.
